Boys Basketball Summer Program

Walk-in Registration at Hannah More School Gymnasium Lobby

Wednesday, June 2, from 7 to 9 pm

and

Saturday, June 5, from 10 am to 12 pm

          Given the success of last year’s inaugural program, the Reisterstown Recreation Council’s Boys Basketball Program will be conducting a summer program again this year.  This program, which is purely recreational, with no formal instruction or officiated games, is designed to give children ages 10 to 17 an opportunity to play ball one evening per week under the supervision of parent-coaches. 

          The Summer Basketball Program will run for 7 weeks, from June 21^st through August 5^th.  Age cutoffs are as of December 31, 2010.  Age groupings and nightly scheduling will be determined once registration is complete and we are able to determine how many players and parent-coaches are available to us in each age group. 

          The cost of the program is $20 per child.  Registration will only take place at the walk-in registration times listed above, and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Refund requests will be honored only until the program begins on June 21^st. 

          We also need parents to agree to act as coaches/supervisors of the program.  If you are interested in helping out, please let us know at the walk-in registration.  If we do not have enough volunteers, we will not be able to run the program.

IN-HOUSE PROGRAM

Age Groups

7-8 Division    Children born between 1/1/2002 and 12/31/2003

9-10 Division    Children born between 1/1/2001 and 12/31/2001

11-12 Division  Children born between 1/1/1998 and 12/31/1999

13-14 Division  Children born between 1/1/1996 and 12/31/1997

15-17 Division  Children born between 1/1/1993 and 12/31/1995

Registration Information

-Registration fees for both online and walk-in registrations for 2010-2011 are:

     $** per child for 7-8 age group

     $** for ages 9 to 17

-Registrations will not be official until payment has been received.  Payments returned for any reason will incur an additional $20 returned-item fee and void your child's registration, necessitating re-registration. 

-Official registration for all groups other than the 15-17's will close on TBA.  If space allows for any registrations to be taken after this time, an additional $10 late registration fee will be assessed.  Registration for the 15-17's will continue through TBA.

Evaluations and Player Selection

       Evaluations for the in-house program are conducted solely for the purpose of achieving competitive balance among the teams in each age group.  Assessing each player's skills and experience allows us to more equitably assign players to teams.  Evaluations for the in-house program are not tryouts -- Once a player's registration has been accepted, he is guaranteed a spot on a team regardless of skill level or previous experience.

       Please allow 30 minutes during the appropriate time slot for your child to be evaluated.  Evaluations are required for all players.  If you can't make it to the scheduled evaluation time, call Chuck Snee or Brian Patrick at 410-666-3991 x5.

         Evaluations are scheduled for the following times, dates, and locations:

         For all age groups other than 15-17, players will be assigned to teams during the week beginning October 26th.  Once players have been assigned to teams, coaches will contact players to notify them of their first practice time.  Practices will begin on or about November 1st.

         Team assignment for the 15-17 age group will take place following the 15-17 evaluations on TBA.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

Policy Changes (Beginning 2009-2010)

         In past years, it has been the policy of Reisterstown Boys Basketball to require participants in the travel program to also be registered for our in-house program concurrently.  This year, players will be allowed to try out for travel as long as they can demonstrate either that:  (1) They are participating in our in-house program this year, or (2) they have participated in our in-house program for at least one year prior to this year. 

Age Groups (Birth Certificate Required)

9-10 Travel      Children born between 1/1/2000 and 12/31/2001                        

11-12 Travel    Children born between 1/1/1998 and 12/31/1999                       

13-14 Travel    Children born between 1/1/1996 and 12/31/1997                     

Travel Tryouts

        The first tryout session for the travel program will take place on TBA at the following times:

9-10 Travel      TBA
11-12 Travel    TBA
13-14 Travel    TBA

        Anyone wishing to try out for travel must attend the first tryout session.  Additional required follow-up tryout sessions will be also be scheduled; players will be notified as to the times and dates of these sessions at the session on TBA.  Team selection will be completed by no later than TBA.

Registration and Fees

        Prior to participating in the first travel tryout session on TBA, all players should register online for the in-house program this year.  If a player makes the travel team, he still has the option to continue to play in-house.  However, if the player decides not to play in-house this year (assuming he can provide evidence of prior participation in our in-house program), he will be removed from the in-house registration pool and his $** in-house registration fee will be applied toward his travel registration fee.

        The registration fee for participation in the travel program this year is $***.  For players who also participate in the in-house program, this fee is above and beyond the in-house fee of $**.

Travel Coaches

        Anyone interested in coaching a travel team this year must complete the following steps no later than TBA:

1)     Register online here as an adult volunteer participant in our program.

2)     E-mail Brian Patrick at bpatrick@goucher.edu to notify us of your interest.  This e-mail should include the age group you would like to coach and a description of any previous relevant coaching experience you might have.

PLEASE NOTE:

• Registration is limited by the available facilities and the number of volunteers.

• We encourage you to volunteer. Coaches, scorekeepers and sponsors (or make a sponsorship online!) are needed. If you are interested in volunteering, please register online here.
• The 7-8 year old league is instructional.
• It is the policy of Reisterstown Recreation Boys Basketball to deny refunds after teams have been selected and players notified.
• Practices and games for In-house at the Reisterstown Area Facilities will be determined after registration is complete.
